DESSERT OASIS COFFEE ROASTERS

Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters opened in Rochester in 2009 and has since expanded to three other locations in Detroit, Royal Oak, and Ferndale. GERMACK ROASTING COMPANY

2517 Russell Street, Detroit

Germack Roasting Company might be more famous by name for their nuts and snacks, but they have made a name for themselves in the local coffee scene in Detroit. Owner Frank Germack III says, “Family owned, Germack Roasting Company has offered on-site roasted coffee beans for 12 years. We offer fresh roasted beans for sale, along with professionally served coffee and coffee drinks at our Eastern Market Café. Our blends and single-origin coffees span the globe, and we proudly support and sustain coffee growers in South and Central America with our direct purchasing of coffee beans. We also offer teas, spices, brewing equipment, and tea/coffee service sets.”

GREAT LAKES COFFEE ROASTING CO.

Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Co. is known for its farmer-direct coffees that are roasted right here in Metro Detroit. Their roastery is located in Bloomfield Hills and is where all of their coffee bean roasting happens. They also have two locations inside businesses in Pontiac and Detroit, allowing for the perfect break from work to enjoy a cozy space and a hot cup of coffee. You can also purchase their coffees from many area retailers and make your own cozy setup wherever you find yourself. 

COMMONWEALTH CAFE

300 Hamilton Row, Birmingham

Commonwealth Cafe is a local favorite for specialty coffees and delicious food. Many people post up at the cafe for hours to work or socialize because it’s a welcoming and comfortable space to spend time. They have a wide variety of hot and cold coffee beverages including vegan options. Their food menu includes vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options for breakfast and lunch, and their monthly selections always lean into seasonal flavors. 

THE RED HOOK

Red Hook Coffee was founded in 2013 by two brothers who were inspired by the coffee shops they visited in Brooklyn, New York. The coffee shop’s name, Red Hook, is a nod to the Brooklyn neighborhood where the owners lived and worked before moving to Detroit. Red Hook Coffee roasts its own coffee beans and sources them from small farms and cooperatives around the world. All of Red Hook’s locations are incredibly welcoming and have comfortable seating to spend a cozy afternoon.
